WHY GENERATOR IS RATED IN KVA

To really understand this concept, we need to know the main type of power we have in an AC circuit which are: -   Active Power or True Power -   Reactive Power and -   Apparent Power -   Active or True Power is the power that is actually been delivered to load I mean the useable power that your generator outputs and its denoted in KiloWatt or Watts. By formula; P=IV or I^2 x R(watts) -   Reactive Power is the power used to establish and maintain the magnetic field also it can be thought of as power that is stored in the generator and released back into the source through AC. By formula; Q = I 2 X Where X is the reactance in Ohms.    Reactive power is basically there due to the presence of inductive or capacitive components in an AC circuit because when current flows through this components some certain amount of power will be dissipated. It can be think of as power due to loss.  -  Apparent ...

How Electricity is Deliver to your Home

Electricity is generated from generation stations such as HEP (Hydro-Electric Power), Solar, Geothermal e.t.c and are interconnected together by the grid system. Generally, electricity used in homes comes from a very far distance and involve a whole lot of process before it finally gets to your home. This process can be classified into 3 main parts which are:  1. Generation  2. Transmission  3. Distribution 1. Generation  It is the root process where electricity is been generated. This generation of electricity comes from various source such as: Hydro-Electricity Power (HEP), Geothermal, Natural Gas, Biodiesel e.t.c. The generation of electricity is usually at a voltage level of 16kV at a frequency of 50Hz and step up by the station transformer to a voltage level of 330kV and because of the fact that its been generated from different location and source there is therefore need of interconnecting all this power station together to a network...

How to Back-up Android Contact to Gmail

Our cellphone is where we mostly save our personal contact and its obvious that once we lost the phone, perform factory reset or wipe the phone. Contacts and information saved on it will all be gone which in most cases unbearable to us. You might even like to wipe your phone or perform a factory reset on your phone for some reason or the other but contact lost will however become a threat to you.  However, there are some ways in which this important contacts of ours can be saved/backed-up to gmail or other services for emergency use so that when we lost our phone. We can actually recover this if probably we have backed it up to gmail or PC. Here is how to back-up phone contact to gmail 1. Firstly, log-in to your gmail account and on the left corner where it says Gmail. Click on the drop down option and click on Contact. If you see your contacts, it means your phone backed it up automatically already. If not proceed to step 2 2. Go to your phone settings and locate "AC...

Why Capacitor is used in a FAN

We all know what an electric fan is and know well that it works a capacitor but might be wondering how necessary it is to have capacitor along with a fan to get it work. Honestly, it get me nervous if I have to look at the fan working but don't really know why capacitor must be used along with a fan to get it work so I decide to remove the capacitor from my ceiling fan and see if the fan will work but unfortunately for me, the fan didn't work instead just making a hum. I discover that I have to rotate it with my hand to get it rolling/working. It sounds funny though but quite important for a typical electrical engineer student or workers to know the secret behind the usage of capacitor in the ceiling fan system. What is a FAN? An electric fan runs on AC power supply using capacitor as a means of starting device to kick-start the actual rotation of the fan. Now, lets observe the electrical operation of a fan. A fan is an asynchronous electric induction motor and...

Nigeria Electrical Engineering Polytechnics Syllabus as specified by UNESCO

As session begins in most Nigerian university, polytechnics and colleges of education. It is thus advisable for students to keep there self updated and alert for urgent tests and exam as might be decided by the lecturer. UNESCO in a brief UNESCO is responsible for coordinating international cooperation in education, science, culture and communication. It strengthens the ties between nations and societies, and mobilizes the wider public so that each child and citizen: • has access to quality education; a basic human right and an indispensable prerequisite for sustainable development; • may grow and live in a cultural environment rich in diversity and dialogue, where heritage serves as a bridge between generations and peoples; • can fully benefit from scientific advances; • and can enjoy full freedom of expression; the basis of democracy, development and human dignity. UNESCO's messages are of increasing importance today, in a globalized world where i...

Difference between Inverter and UPS

UPS INVERTER Inverters and UPS are used to support power supplies when there is power outage either from the Supply Authority or Generator House. Typically, A UPS is a device that helps in keeping an electrical system for some minutes whenever there is power failure. It makes use of battery which helps to continue power when there is power outage. While an inverter is an electronic gadgets which is used to supply power by converting the direct current of a battery into alternating current. The major difference however between this two device is that, Inverter is not able to provide any supply but through DC source only. 1. *  In Inverter ,AC is converted into DC and then is used to charge the battery. When the power supply goes off, the relay triggers the switch from mains to inverter. It is the use of a sensor and a relay that is the main difference between a UPS and an inverter, otherwise the two are same. And the use of relay and sensor ...
